This addition to the U.S. Mint’s family of keepsakes honoring the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park in Vermont includes two rolls of quarters—one minted in Denver and the other minted in Philadelphia. Once the private home to some of America’s foremost conservationists and environmentalists, the site has the distinction of being the only national location in America dedicated to preserving our country’s conservationist history. Its rich design paints of a portrait of American conservationism through an image of a child seeking to maintain a sustainable forest for future enjoyment and education. Inscriptions read “LAND STEWARDSHIP,” “MARSH-BILLINGS- ROCKEFELLER,” “VERMONT,” “2020,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program launched in 2010 to celebrate a national park, site, or landscape in each state, territory, and the District of Columbia. Each quarter features a “tails” side, or reverse, design honoring a national site in that location, while the “heads” side, or obverse, of each quarter features the portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter-dollar coin since 1932. When the program ends in 2021, it will include 56 unique quarters.
